Nothing goes better with bitcoin than boxing

Floyd Mayweather on stage at Bitcoin 2021

Speaking of Floyd Mayweather, he was there. He did a fireside chat with Tracy Leparulo, head of marketing for a company called Zytara, to talk about his life story, blockchain, his new NFTs and cryptocurrency in general, but not bitcoin specifically.

Too much talk and not enough bitcoin upset the rowdy crowd. They booed when he said he thought other digital assets will be big as bitcoin. Add Mayweather to the list to things bitcoiners don’t like.

“Everybody in the crypto world is competing with one another, whereas I feel like everybody should be able to choose what they want to choose and go with who they want to go with,” Mayweather said. “I believe there’s gonna be another cryptocurrency just as large as bitcoin someday.”

Not cool, said the crowd. Not cool at all.

A match between Mayweather and YouTuber Logan Paul at Miami Gardens on Sunday night followed Bitcoin 2021. Shockingly, the fight lasted eight rounds and ended without a knockout. This was because my teenage son says the rules of the match were “really weird.”

But maybe the Bitcoin crowd’s ire put Mayweather off his game? Maybe they were right? Maybe they put a curse on him like the now-broken Curse of the Billy Goat on the Chicago Cubs? We’ll never know for sure.
